New: Lenten Retreat with Fr. Lester, AM and Fr. Peter, AM.
April 6, 2019
by Carol Juego

The religious community of The Alagad ni Maria West Coast held their Annual Lenten Retreat last April 6, 2019 with Fr. Peter Lavin, AM and Fr. Louis Lester Niez, AM as retreat masters.

Fr. Peter started with the challenge how are we going to listen to other people (ears, mind and heart) with emphasis on listening with our heart especially in the hustle and bustle of our daily life. We should STOP, LOOK and LISTEN, that became a challenge to me.

Fr. Les then guided us to a journey with Mother Mary at the foot of the cross. The Stabat Mater, which we nonchalantly pray whenever we do Stations of the Cross - best reflects how our Blessed Mother suffered so much. No parent would want to see their child suffer so intensely, yet Mother Mary was there until the end. She took the pain and pondered everything in her heart knowing that her joyful fiat would have to pass through this sorrowful passion in order to gain the glorious Easter. So, with Mother Mary how are we going to prepare for Easter? Here are some of the pointers;

1. Making quiet time with the Lord.
2. Affirming Christ in our lives
3. Renewal of ourselves
4. Yielding to God's will.

Fr. Peter then took us to a prayerful reflection of the Seven Sorrows of Mother Mary and how it relates to the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Two co-retreatants stated to me, that they appreciated this part since not many of us know the 7 Sorrows of Mary.

The retreat ended with the conviction that amidst all the suffering, there is Easter joy.

FAMILY Catechism on the Solemnity of St. Joseph the husband of Mary

FAMILY members listening to Fr. Peter, AM who talked about St. Joseph in the Scriptures

March 19, 2019, Solemnity of St. Joseph: FAMILY (Friends of the Alagad ni Maria in Leading the Youth) Catechism Night was held in Disciples of Mary home in Anaheim Magnolia. Fr. Peter, AM inspired them about the story of St. Joseph in the scriptures.

The event started with the mass at 6:00pm followed by an austere meal cooked by Fr. Peter, AM himself and some food brought in by FAMILY members. Catechism started after everyone had their fill.

One of the most striking message was, if not for the intercession of St. Joseph, we will not be who we are right now. St. Joseph did not leave the Blessed Mother, he did not leave Jesus. He will not leave us and for sure intercede for us.

FAMILY: Volunteers Appreciation Luncheon

Simple appreciation luncheon for some of the volunteers of the Disciples of Mary was held last March 2, 2019. Some volunteers were not present because of prior commitments.
